So we’ve seen airlines serving Michelin-star meals and vintage wines onboard business and first class cabins. We’ve also seen economy meals get a much deserved upgrade on many airlines but if grabbing a quick meal before you board your flight is your preferred choice, Fortnum & Mason, the upmarket store in central London, has now created the ultimate in-flight meal for you.
Known for their delectable hampers, tea, coffee and sweet treats, the store has now launched five Hamperlings costing between £15 ($21) and £50 ($72) and offering choices of a smoked salmon plate, a vegetarian option, a ploughman’s plate, rare roast salt-aged beef salad or foie gras, caviar and smoked fish plate.
That’s right caviar and foie gras! This one is priced at £50 ($72) for two people and includes a smoked fish selection, pickled cucumber, rye bread, butter, Fortnum’s Oscietra caviar, goose foie gras torchon, a quince, fig and almond wheel, a salad, herb mustard dressing, lemon posset (a creamy dessert), Napolitan squares and a cheeseboard of Ragstone, Comte, Lincolnshire Poacher, apple chutney, rye bread and butter. How’s that for good value? Even the vegetarian option is bountiful. At £15 ($21), it includes a roast butternut squash, red onion, seeds and rocket salad with a herb mustard dressing, cheeseboard, lemon posset and Napolitan squares.
The meals come packed in Fortnum’s cool bags and all of them include fresh salads, rye bread, a pudding of Napolitan Squares and a plastic cutlery set – including caviar spoons if necessary. They can be purchased at the Fortnum’s store at Heathrow Terminal 5. Time to get everyone else onboard your flight jealous!
