Not only is the Red Sea Project going as per plan but also as per promise. The Giga project announced the installation of 750,000 solar panels following the development’s sustainability drive. The first phase will launch with as many as five solar stations encompassing 16 hotels, retail, and entertainment venues wholly powered by renewable energy. The jaw continues to drop at Red Sea Global is raising the bar by installing the world’s largest battery storage facility at a capacity of 1,200 megawatts per hour. In simpler words, the establishment will aid the company in becoming 100 percent grid independent.
That is a tremendous feat considering the area will be inhabited by 50 resorts, nearly 8,000 hotel rooms, and a whopping 1,000 residential buildings across 22 islands and six inland regions by 2030. “The size and scale of RSG’s battery storage facility put this iconic regenerative tourism destination at the forefront of the global transition towards carbon neutrality.
Wind and solar capacity are set to exceed coal and gas in less than five years, and we are keen to drive the pace of change,” said John Pagano, CEO of RSG.
He added, “We have always been committed to pushing the boundaries of what it means to be sustainable, and these efforts will play a significant role in the country’s ambition to become a greener nation. By powering the destination with 100 percent clean and renewable energy, we will make this vision a reality.” The project will boost a large workforce as RSG provides vocational training scholarships to 500 people in cooperation with the Human Resources Development Fund. They aim to provide specialized training to 10,000 Saudi citizens by 2030 and ensure half of its workforce is Saudi nationals.
