Just as the beauty of the high seas is best experienced on a superyacht, the breathtaking landscapes of Saudi Arabia are set to be explored aboard the Dream of the Desert, the Middle East’s first luxury train. Saudi Arabia Railways (SAR) and Italy’s Arsenale Group have unveiled a new series of renderings, offering a glimpse into the train‘s opulent design ahead of its launch in 2026.
The train exudes luxury from the first look, with its sand-hued exterior seamlessly blending into the desert landscape. A striking purple stripe adds a sophisticated touch of vibrancy to the kingdom’s inaugural five-star train, inspired by the vast desert and traditional Saudi architecture.
While the exterior captivates with its harmony with nature, the interiors are a masterclass in understated extravagance. Earthy tones, plush textiles, and intricate details, such as ornate lighting fixtures, sumptuous throws, and rich fabrics, create a warm, inviting ambiance.
The design also incorporates architectural motifs and elements from Saudi landmarks like Mada’in Salih and Hail, seamlessly woven into the aesthetic.
The Dream of the Desert train comprises 14 carriages housing 34 luxury suites, setting a new standard for premium rail travel. Departing from Riyadh, it will traverse SAR’s Northern Railway network, offering guests the chance to explore some of Saudi Arabia’s most awe-inspiring heritage and natural wonders, including the ancient oasis city of AlUla, located in Al Madinah Province.
Unlike most luxury trains, the Dream of the Desert goes beyond scenic beauty, offering cultural immersion at its finest. In collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, the train will feature curated programs, giving travelers a deeper connection to Saudi traditions and heritage throughout their journey.
Paolo Barletta, CEO of Arsenale Group, remarked, “When we first envisioned Dream of the Desert, our goal was to create an unparalleled travel experience, one that would take guests on an unforgettable journey through the heart of Saudi Arabia. This project is more than just a luxury train; it is a fully immersive experience blending refined design, world-class hospitality, and rich cultural traditions.”
The Dream of the Desert is set to begin operations by the end of Q3 2026, with booking details and exclusive packages to be announced soon on the official website.
