Elegance never fades; Cartier proves it simply returns in finer form. And return it has! A distinctive model from the esteemed Tank collection, first introduced in 1928, has made a striking comeback. The Tank à Guichets, known for its bold design and unique time display, redefined horological aesthetics with its solid metal case and two small apertures, one for hours and another for minutes. Who needs conventional hands when Cartier’s charming design ideology is in full force?
Nearly a century ago, the inaugural Tank à Guichets introduced a jumping hour mechanism featuring a rectangular hour window at 12 o’clock and a semicircular minute aperture at 6 o’clock. Now, in 2025, Cartier unveils a new chapter for this horological icon through the Cartier Privé collection, presenting four distinct models.
The Classic Configuration, faithful to the 1928 original, comes in yellow gold with green numerals and a matching green alligator leather strap, according to Time and Tide. The rose gold version is subtle yet striking, with dark gray numerals and a matching strap. The platinum model stuns with burgundy numerals and a matching burgundy strap.
The pièce de résistance is the Limited-Edition Platinum Variant, restricted to just 200 pieces. Offering a contemporary twist, this model repositions the hour aperture to 10 o’clock and the minute to 4 o’clock, almost as if the timepiece is winking at its wearer for making the finest choice. With burgundy numerals and a sleek black alligator strap, it nods to the avant-garde spirit of the 1930s.
All models measure 37.6mm in height, 24.8mm in width, and are 6mm thick. They are instantly recognizable as Tanks and are powered by the new hand-wound 9755 MC jump hour caliber. While pricing has yet to be announced, all watches are available at Cartier boutiques.
