Giving time a whole new shape – Cartier introduces the Cartier Privé Tank Asymétrique in time-only and skeleton versions

Cartier fans need to stop a while and take a good look at the watch collections spinning out of the Cartier stables like there’s no tomorrow. They are all stunning time-pieces crafted skillfully and looking like their price-tags i.e. a million bucks! We were completely bowled over by the Cartier Maillon de Cartier jewelry watch which reminded us of a classic favorite- the Cartier Tank. For those who don’t know Cartier Tank was Louis Cartier’s bright idea to give a watch the shape of a rectangle back in 1917 where round dials were the only ones that existed. Over time Cartier cultivated an annual tradition of reviving one of its iconic case shapes as part of the compact and focused Cartier Privé line. It started with the Tank Cintrée in 2018, followed by the Tonneau last year. Come 2020 and there’s a new version waiting to enthrall us – the Cartier Privé Tank Asymétrique. It brings back the classic with a 47.15mm x 26.2mm case in the classic time-only format as well as a contemporary skeleton version. Limited to 100 pieces each of the watches are available in three metals, platinum, yellow as well as pink gold. We love the combinations used here; seen on the pink gold watch, is a grey dial and strap, in yellow gold stands out a champagne dial and brown strap, and the platinum version impresses with a silver-colored dial, ruby cabochon, and grey strap.

Now let’s get talking about the very first skeletonized Tank Asymétrique. There are three beautiful versions of the Tank Asymétrique Skeleton. It looks exceptional in pink gold, platinum and absolutely fantastic in a bejeweled platinum version. These come with blue and black alligator straps while the platinum version is accompanied with a crown set with a brilliant-cut diamond (0.12 ct) and its case and buckle set with 250 brilliant-cut diamonds (2.08 cts). The prices as expected aren’t low as the platinum watch is priced at $70.000, and $61,000 for pink gold. The prices for the rest of the bejeweled versions can be requested at the Cartier website.
