The latest from the New-York-based jewelry and wristwatch brand is an automaton that pays tribute to the oil industry. Meet the Jacob & Co. Oil Pump, a wristwatch with an elaborate automaton that has an animation depicting the extraction of black gold on the dial. The striking new timepiece features a working oil pump that incorporates two working derricks, an “oil” reservoir, and a system of pipes. At the press of a button located at 2 o’clock, an oil rig’s miniature recreation begins to perform its pumping motion. The attention to detail is absolutely top-notch. There are three different watch variants available in Rose Gold, Titanium Black DLC, and White Gold.
The case measures 49.5mm, and a dome-shaped sapphire crystal wraps over the automaton on the dial. The case only gets a pusher on the caseband at 2 o’clock for activating the automaton, while the winding and time setting is done using two bows built into the case back. On the dial, at 6 o’clock is Jacob & Co’s. iconic double-axis tourbillon, and the hours and minutes are featured on an anthracite ring at 9 o’clock with gold Arabic numerals. The power reserve counter is located at 3 o’clock and incorporated as a part of the oil rig in the form of a pressure gauge. Powering the incredibly complicated watch is the manual-winding caliber JCAM33 which has 510 components. The movement beats at a frequency of 21,600vph and offers 60 hours of power reserve. The Oil Pump watch is paired with a black alligator strap, and 18k rose gold folding clasp. As for the price, the Jacob & Co. Oil Pump retails for $380,000.
