Montblanc uses the purest form of coal for its Star Legacy watches

The luxury brand also unveils two new TimeWalker automatic chronographs at this week’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie watch fair in Geneva

Montblanc is headlining its timepieces at SIHH 2019 – this week’s Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie watch fair in Geneva, Switzerland – with offerings that enrich its Star Legacy and TimeWalker collections.

The four Star Legacy watches on offer include two Nicolas Rieussec Chronographs and two Star Legacy with Roman numerals.

Adding two colour references to the Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph design this year, Montblanc has opted to pair dials of anthracite – a hard variety of coal that contains relatively pure carbon – with red gold and stainless steel cases.

Both timepieces come with straps – made at Montblanc’s leather tanning workshop in Florence, Italy – in a greyish shade that matches the dial.

The two timepieces feature two instantly recognisable rotating horizontal disc counters across their dials.

The guilloche outer ring of the dial offers a nice textural contrast to the polished alloy cases. An in-house monopusher chronograph movement propels the counters, central time and the date indicators via an aperture at eight o’clock.

The maison has also brought two new watches to the Star Legacy series with Roman numerals, enriching the line-up so that it now include a timepiece featuring a full calendar and one with date indication.

Both pieces feature in-house automatic movements that are housed in stainless steel cases paired with black leather straps.
