Instead of this year’s SIHH, watchmaker Ulysse Nardin chose the recently-concluded 2019 Miami Yacht Show to debut the Marine Mega Yacht watch – a follow-up model to the Grand Deck Tourbillon revealed back in 2016. Ulysse Nardin’s latest boat-themed mega watch, as the name suggests, is targeted towards yacht owners and will be limited to just 30 pieces. Inspired by the sleek, high-tech aesthetics of contemporary luxury yachts, the Marine Mega Yacht watch features a 44 case crafted in platinum. A combination of white gold and blue grand feu enamel on the dial depicts the bow of a luxury vessel emerging from the misty, foaming ocean. The case comes paired to a deep blue alligator strap that matches the color of the dial.
Powering the timepiece is Ulysse Nardin caliber UN-63 that features 504 components, is wound by hand and offers a power reserve of 80 hours. The movement along displaying the time also powers a three-dimensional moon phase display and a mechanism that displays the height of the tides in real time in relation to a specific location. The flying tourbillon at 6 o’clock rotates once every 60 seconds and the cage is specially designed to resemble the propeller blades on luxury sea vessels. The power reserve is displayed at 3 o’clock by a small, plowshare-design anchor linked to a chain by an anchor ring. The timepiece has a sapphire caseback which gives a view of the movement and its intricacies from the rear. Just like the Grand Deck timepiece, Ulysse Nardin teamed up with Christophe Claret manufacture, a brand universally recognized for designing innovative watch complications, to develop and build the Mega Yacht watch. Each of the 30 pieces will come with a plaque in the side of the watch offering the owners an option to get personalized engraving. The ref. 6319-305 Ulysse Nardin Marine Mega Yacht watch is priced just over $300,000 USD.
