Urwerk releases a C-3PO-inspired UR-100 Gold Edition watch to celebrate Star Wars Day

Urwerk Star Wars Inspired Watch

Watchmaker Urwerk has released a new gold edition of its UR-100 timepiece inspired by cinema’s most loved droid, the C-3PO. The newest edition of the watch has been created to celebrate the Star Wars Day – May 4th. The UR-100 featuring the brand’s emblematic satellite time display with orbital hour satellites made its debut last year in two different finishes of steel and black-coated steel, which was followed by a third GunMetal model. The Urwerk UR-100 Gold Edition is the fourth episode in the saga. The 41mm case of the timepiece is in yellow gold; Urwerk’s co-founder Martin Frei explains the case is made from a solid block of 18k 2N yellow gold and its surface is satin finished as a reference to the iconic droid. Frei explains: “Science fiction has been an inexhaustible source of inspiration since the creation of URWERK. I have been a sci-fi geek since childhood. My father was an engineer and worked on incredible projects, including the Apollo Lunar Rover. He was my hero and left me his love of the cosmos and his dreams.”

As far as the watch goes, the UR-100 features a time display under the ultra-domed sapphire crystal that’s designed as a tribute to space exploration. A combination of rotating satellites displays the hours and minutes along with an interesting set of astronomical indications: the rotation of the earth in 20 minutes and the revolution of the earth around the sun in 20 minutes. The watch is powered by the brand’s in-house 12.01 automatic movement that offers a power reserve of 48 hours. The watch is paired to a black alligator strap with an 18k gold pin buckle. The Urwerk UR-100 Gold Edition is a limited edition of 25 pieces and has a price tag of CHF 58,000 (about $60,000).
