Would you pay $400 for a cup of coffee that is roasted in outer space?

Move over the coffees of the world as we now have a brew that comes to you right from outer space! Thanks to Dubai based entrepreneur Hatem Alkhafaji and his business partnerAnders Cavallini, we can now devour coffee that is brewed to perfection as part of an ambitious project titled – Space Roast Capsule.

The collaboration aims to produce the perfect roast by shooting a capsule in space and using the heat of its re-entry into the Earth’s atmosphere to roast the beans at the most appropriate temperatures. The coffee beans will float inside it in a pressurized tank in a zero-gravity heated oven so that they can be evenly roasted with 360-degree heat distribution and other suitable settings. The capsule (christened as the Coffee Roasting Capsule) will be launched next year and will carry 300kg of coffee beans that would be fired on a rocket to a height of around 200km for the perfect brews.

Commenting on the ambitious project, company spokesperson Kelli Sullivan in a statement to Florida Toda said, “We really just want to inspire people to realize that space is no longer limited to specific nations, it’s for everyone and it’s no longer unimaginable or unattainable.” She further added, “We really wanted to create a company that would engage people and give them a relatable way to be inspired by space science.” Post its production, the celestial brew will first be introduced in Dubai and is likely to cost $200 (Dh735) to $400 (Dh1,470) per cup.
