The white Everlast boxing trunks worn by legend Muhammad Ali during the historic ‘Thrilla in Manila’ match may fetch more than $6 million in today’s Sotheby’s auction

What if you could own something that was a part of the American professional boxer, Muhammad Ali’s journey? The Everlast boxing trunks belonging to “The Greatest ” are hitting the auction block to fetch a minimum of $4,000,000 and a maximum of $6,000,000. The price tag seems justified as the trunks were sported during the action-packed “Thrilla in Manila,” a match between heavyweight boxers Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier on October 1, 1975, that went down in history as truly iconic. The satin trunks worn by Ali will headline Sotheby’s Sports Week, an inaugural sale series with more than 350 sports collectibles.

Everlast crafted the trunks specifically for the boxing legend to be worn during the most brutal match in boxing history. The garment features the marking, “Made expressly for Muhammad Ali,” marked on the center label, with a black side trim and a black waistband. The multi-million memorabilia also includes inscriptions by Ali’s assistant trainer and corner man, Drew Brown. The cherry on the cake is Ali’s signature on the lower left leg.

James Spence Authentication authenticated the signature and included a letter of certification for the auctioned item. Those who were lucky to witness the match in all its glory (a billion people watched as it was the first time a match was broadcast by continuous satellite signal) won’t need any certificate to fathom the importance of the Everlast boxing trunks that were worn by an icon for 14 rounds, and over 42 minutes. Sotheby’s will offer the trunks and estimates it to bring in $4-$6 million. The auction happens today, March 27.
