Here’s some super news about Superman: An issue of Action Comics No. 1 recently went under the hammer for a record $6 million. The book, from 1938, introduced the superhero and has become the most valuable comic book in the world. It has surpassed even 1939’s Superman No. 1, which sold for a cool $5.3 million in 2022. Out of the 200,000 copies originally printed, only 100 copies of Action Comics #1 remain.

The $6 million copy is said to be in pristine condition, graded CGC Very Fine+ 8.5, with only a small tear at the top of its spine, a small crease in the top left of its back cover, a tear with a crease on the top of the front cover, and some “very light staple rust.” Considering it is an 85-year-old comic book, it’s remarkably well-preserved. Heritage Auctions posted about the sale just moments after it reached its new price. For those following the journey of the literary Superman, the comic set a record a decade ago by selling for $3.2 million. Even then, it was the most expensive comic ever.
History is repeating itself a decade later, with the comic that startled the world by selling for $3.2 million doubling in price to an insane $6 million. If comics aren’t serious business, then we don’t know what is!
