Established in 1997 by Felix Baumgartner and Martin Frei, Urwerk is one of those high-end luxury watch brands that has established its name by producing radically different timepieces with out-of-the-box designs. Their latest creation isn’t any different as it transcends the limits of traditional watchmaking. Behold the Urwerk Space-Time Blade, a bespoke timepiece created for the 2023 Only Watch charity event that blends the worlds of haute horology and science fiction. Crafted in collaboration with talented craftsman Dalibor Farny, the unique timepiece would surely get all Star Wars fans excited as it is designed to look like a lightsaber.
Standing 167cm tall, the unorthodox digital clock features a bronze pedestal and a glass column elegantly encapsulating retro-futuristic Nixie tube displays. Powered by a Urwerk concept caliber, the Space-Time Blade timepiece not only displays the hours, minutes, and seconds but also showcases the distance of the Earth’s rotation which is indicated in kilometers. The captivating horological creation perfectly demonstrates Urwerk’s dedication to innovative design and cutting-edge technology. The one-off timepiece will be auctioned at the 2023 edition of the Only Watch event that will be held on November 5 in Geneva and is expected to sell anywhere between CHF 45,000 to 80,000 (roughly $51,200 to $91,000).
Only Watch charity auction
Only Watch was created in 2005 by Luc Pettavino under the patronage of Prince Albert II of Monaco with the intention of raising funds for research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) – a genetic disorder causing progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. The money is raised by auctioning one-off timepieces created by different luxury watch brands for the event. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the Only Watch charity auction has established itself as one of the most-awaited biennial events in the horology calendar for both brands and collectors. A total of about CHF 100 million (about $114 million) has been raised over the previous nine editions of the auction. This year, a total of 62 unique timepieces will go under the hammer at Christie’s, the official auctioneer for Only Watch.
