Move over Dubai, the oil-rich country of Kuwait is planning to build the world’s tallest skyscraper. Inspired by Arabian nights, the 234-story structure will rise 1000 meters into the sky and dethrone the iconic Burj Khalifa.


Who could’ve thought Dubai’s tallest, the world’s tallest, Burj Khalifa, could ever be dethroned? In the latest news, Kuwait will soon be home to the world’s tallest tower, the Burj Mubarak. We may miss the Khalifa, but the Burj remains. Kuwait’s biggest development project, Madinat Al Hareer, aka Silk City, will house The one-kilometer tall tower that will be the cynosure of the $132 billion Silk City slated to be completed by 2023. On the other hand, the Burj Mubarak will take at least 25 years to complete, leaving enough time for Burj Khalifa to enjoy its glory. The Kuwaiti skyscraper will feature a unique design comprising three interlocking, twisting structures to withstand 150 mph winds and resulting vibrations, according to Business Insider.

Compared to the iconic Burj Khalifa, which stands an impressive 828 meters (2,717 feet) tall, Burj Mubarak will allegedly be 1001 meters tall, boasting 234 floors capable of housing up to 7,000 individuals. The structure inspired by one thousand and one Arabian Nights is the brainchild of CivicArts architecture firm.

The silk city.

It will comprise three interlocking, twisting frames to protect it from 150 mph winds and resulting vibrations. The superstructure will be surrounded by seven vertical villages, offering residents and visitors alike world-class amenities such as hotels, residences, offices, and entertainment.


“It would be the tallest building in Kuwait, and it is safe to say that its planned height surpasses that of the world’s current tallest building – Burj Khalifa in Dubai (828 meters). However, it is not the world’s tallest under-construction building at this moment,” a report mentioned.
