Reality TV superstar Kim Kardashian recently gave a tour of her $60 million Calabasas mansion in California as a part of an interview for Vogue’s “Objects of Affection” series, which included a sneak peek of her collection of thoroughly customized luxury cars. Interestingly, Kim’s multi-million dollar garage was conspicuously missing a Ferrari. Well, a recent rumor that has been going around on the internet suggests the famous American media personality cannot actually buy a Ferrari as she has been blacklisted by the iconic Italian marque. This comes hot on the heels of a recent news report that stated Canadian music sensation Justin Bieber has also been banned by Ferrari from purchasing its cars, joining celebrities like Floyd Mayweather, 50 cents, and Nicolas Cage. In most cases, Ferrari refrains from publicly speaking about such things, unless it ends up suing the individual (yes, Ferrari does that). However, the Italian supercar manufacturer did actually choose to clarify its position this time around.
So, did Ferrari ban Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber from buying its cars?
Well, the rumors are partially true! A Ferrari spokesperson revealed to Spanish newspaper Marca that the Italian marque doesn’t actually ban individuals and blacklist them from buying its cars. However, there’s a catch! Celebrities like Kim and Justin will only be able to purchase series production Ferraris such as the Roma and the upcoming SUV Purosangue. Limited production models and exclusive Ferraris will be out of bounds for them. “Ferrari reserves the right to decide on special editions,” the spokesperson stated while speaking to Marca. It is a known fact that Ferrari has a very stringent vetting process for the allocation of its special edition cars. In fact, an individual has to own several series-production Ferraris to actually qualify for putting down an application of intent to purchase a limited edition model. Jay Leno has been very vocal about his disapproval of this process and has stated it to be the main reason why he has never owned a Ferrari.
What did these celebrities do to tick off Ferrari?
Actually, it’s not very difficult to make the legendary Italian marque angry. Ferrari takes its brand image and position very seriously and has put in place a set of rules and guidelines that have to be followed by the owners. Violating those terms and conditions can immediately attract the attention of the supercar manufacturer and the person might face a ban (at least from buying exclusive models). Much worse, the company might even take legal action against the individual. It has happed quite a few times in the past and you can read more about it by clicking here.
Justin Bieber did quite a few things that ended up provoking Ferrari, which includes heavily modifying his 458 Italia, misplacing it for a few weeks, and selling it without Ferrari’s consent. You’ll be surprised that Ferrari doesn’t approve of any of it. However, in Kim’s case, it’s not exactly known what angered Ferrari; there’s no record of Kim personally owning a Ferrari, except for a 458 Italia that was gifted to her in 2011 by a Malaysian businessman. Maybe, the automaker thinks the reality TV star will end up customizing the Ferrari if she buys one. After all, all her current cars have been personalized to look the same.
