Maui’s affluent residents, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, are doing more for the wildfire-ravaged island than be empathetic bystanders. The newly engaged billionaire couple is setting up a fund to aid the victims of the Maui wildfires to get back on their feet with a hefty $100 million donation from their end. Sanchez shared the news on social media, sounding positively devastated by the horrific catastrophe. Sanchez announced, “Jeff and I are heartbroken by what’s happening in Maui. We are thinking of all the families that have lost so much and a community that has been left devastated.”
She added, ‘We are creating a Maui Fund and are dedicating $100 million to help Maui get back on its feet now and over the coming years as the continuing needs reveal themselves.” The world’s third richest man with a net worth of $163 billion has been a resident of La Perouse Bay in Maui since 2021. The space worked as a holiday home away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Seeing one’s haven of solace be subject to such disastrous calamities is heartbreaking.
The deadly fires have claimed at least 59 lives, wiped Lahaina off, and rendered thousands homeless. Lauren stated she and Jeff are thinking of long-term aid, “The immediate needs are important, and so is the longer-term rebuilding that will have to happen — even after much of the attention has subsided.”
We hope more and more millionaires, billionaires, and people come forward to help the residents in whatever way they can. While centibillionaire Bezos is doing his bit, Accuweather Inc. said its early estimates of the economic toll range between $8 billion and $10 billion. Guess Maui certainly needs a MacKenzie Scott to pitch in.
Jeff Bezos and Lauren own a $78 million tropical estate in the La Perouse Bay-
In 2021, Bezos spent a fortune on a lovely home on a remote Hawaiian getaway. The La Perouse Bay is isolated from prying eyes and zealous paparazzi, leaving the affluent couple in absolute serenity to enjoy their 14-acre complex. With next to no details spared, it is known that the main house is about 4,500 square feet and includes an outdoor kitchen with ocean views.
The property also features a 1,700-square-foot guesthouse; aerial photos reveal several other smaller buildings. Summers can be enjoyed more by relaxing in the perfectly circular, 700-square-foot swimming pool. The single-story structures are nestled amongst an envelope of palm trees.
