Mark Zuckerberg is often referred to as the Meta Boss and tech tycoon, but after unveiling the colossal sculpture he commissioned of his wife of twelve years, it’s clear he’s not just immortalizing Priscilla Chan—he’s cementing his status as ‘Husband of the Century!’ The 40-year-old Facebook founder shared on Instagram a Roman-style statue of his wife, Priscilla Chan. The mother of three was perfectly captured in the monumental artwork by Daniel Arsham, depicting her likeness to a T. “Bringing back the Roman tradition of making sculptures of your wife. Thanks, Daniel Arsham,” Zuckerberg wrote.
In contrast to the photo where a goddess-like Chan, draped in the spellbinding artistry of quartz, gypsum cement, and blue calcite, stands in a wind-blown silver garment, the actual nonchalant wife of the world’s fifth richest person is seen sipping from a matching travel mug and wearing a dusty pink robe. She even joked in a social media post with a cheeky comment, writing, “You can’t miss me!”
The statue may have received mixed reviews from fans and followers, but it would hardly be a standout addition to the backyard of Zuckerberg’s home. His properties are known for their eccentricity, whether it’s the Hawaiian Koolau Ranch or the seven-building compound on the Lake Tahoe shore that includes a 35-foot structure, fire pits, a bunkhouse, bridges, and mulch trails. The statue of Chan, which looks nearly 10-12 feet tall next to the 5’4” American philanthropist and former pediatrician, would blend in perfectly with the oddities of this Silicon Valley tycoon’s home. In fact, it would be a great addition to his $300 million superyacht, Launchpad.
Figureheads, particularly female ones, are known to be symbols of good luck, gaining popularity in the 19th century. Barry Diller’s $200 million superyacht EOS features a 9-foot-tall sculpture of Diane von Furstenberg, sculpted by Anh Duong.
Even Jeff Bezos’s $500 million Koru flaunts a wooden sculpture carved as a Roman goddess, believed to be Lauren Sanchez. However, it was later revealed to be Bezos’s favorite mythological figure, Freyja, the Norse goddess of love, fertility, war, and gold. When you’re a man worth $188 billion, you can commission two of these Daniel Arsham artworks—one for the garden and one for the boat!
Who is Daniel Arsham-
Daniel Arsham, a 40-year-old artist from a family of Ukrainian immigrants, grew up largely in Miami and now resides in Brooklyn. The American artist has been a prominent figure in the art world for nearly two decades, with a prolific career that includes solo museum shows, brand collaborations with Porsche and Dior, and artistic partnerships with Merce Cunningham and Pharrell. He co-founded a multidisciplinary design practice called Snarkitecture, which produces furniture and large-scale experiential installations.
Interestingly, the New York-based sculptor is colorblind and typically works with monochrome materials like creamy plaster, volcanic ash, and black glass to create his sculptures. It was only in 2022, with the help of a pair of glasses, that Arsham began working with color for the first time, leading to his debut solo show in New York, “Circa 2345,” at Galerie Perrotin. In an interview, he mentioned that he initially thought he’d wear the glasses all the time, but the varying hues eventually became overwhelming. “I got tired trying to take it all in,” he said.
A veteran of art-fashion collaborations, Arsham also has his own fashion label, Objects IV Life. The artist behind Tiffany & Co.’s limited edition of 49 sculptures is also wildly popular on social media, with over 1 million Instagram followers. His collaborations with Adidas, Dior, Disney, Heinz, Pokémon, Porsche, and Rimowa have garnered him widespread acclaim.
