Designer Michael Kors has finally opened his flagship store in SoHo, NYC. The 22,000-square-foot store is located at 520 Broadway and sees Kors checking several achievements off his list: not only will this be the first of his stores to retail his menswear collections but also the first store to stock men’s shoes. An entire floor is dedicated to accessories from Michael Kors Collection and MICHAEL Michael Kors, including watches, jewelry, eyewear and fragrance. The store also boasts the largest selection of MICHAEL Michael Kors ready-to-wear and footwear in the world, not to mention the first dedicated shoe salon in the US.
The ground floor is all about accessories like handbags, small leather goods, watches, jewelry, beauty, fragrance and even the new Luxottica-produced eyewear collection. Design elements like vintage Murano glass Sputnik chandeliers, sleek metal fixtures, mirrored surfaces and glossy, large-scale photographs are evocative of the brand’s jet-set vibe juxtaposing it with a kind of modern glamor.
The 4,000 sq foot lower level becomes the men’s store featuring chevron flooring in gray oak bordered by white marble, black embossed leather wall coverings, custom-built, polished and blackened stainless steel fixtures with gray smoked mirrors and gray-marble display cases. The finishing touches are lent by black-and-white photography, a Richard Serra painting and custom seating. The store offers everything from modern sportswear to suede and leather outerwear. The Men’s Suit Shop features the 520-exclusive Broadway suit as well as other sport coats, dress shirts and ties, and accessories. Tailoring services are available in store.
The second floor showcases the largest selection of MICHAEL Michael Kors ready-to-wear and footwear in the world. The floor also hosts the shoe salon which will be among the first retail locations to carry the Michael Kors Jet Set 6, a capsule footwear collection that is updated every season.
The store is certainly set to drop jaws. With a set up this grand, no one can possibly accuse Michael of doing anything by halves!
