Is it cognac or is it a crown? Les Remarquables de Martell is a luxury Cognac that could pass as an extravagant ornament. It wouldn’t be inaccurate to dub the rare cognac as royalty as this blend of two eaux-de-vie from the Grande Champagne makes for one of the world’s most expensive cognacs. Its rarity can also be attributed to the fact that the cognac was distilled more than 70 years ago, each selected by cellar master Christophe Valtaud. The journey went from the cellar of Port du Lys in the 1700s to the Cognac house’s Réserve du Fondateur.
As this is a blend, the first, having spent longer in oak, is characterized by power, tension, and length with prominent notes of cedar. The second is fresh and vibrant, with notes of honey, white flowers, and candied fruit, per Martell. An exceptional blend like the L’Or Réserve du Château de Chanteloup deserve nothing but the most dazzling dame-jeanne.
Laurentine Perilhou, a French artist famed for her macramé work, spun opulence on the piece using gold threads. “My aim was to make the invisible visible,” she said in a statement, “from the Earth to the Sun, from the roots in the soil to the vine leaves turned upwards to the light.”
The gold threads represent the roots and are embellished with tiny gold nuggets that add a touch of glamor to the body of the dame-jeanne. The masterpiece is completed by the addition of three synthetic sapphires and a single diamond, set in 22-carat gold, as well as 40 cabochons of 300-year-old oak, evoking the savoir-faire of Maison Martell.
To complete the experience, Maison Martell offers bespoke accessories along with the dame-jeanne that comes housed in a wooden cabinet. A set of six Baccarat glasses, a macramé neck adornment for the bottle, and a pair of white gloves will help you craft a one-of-a-kind experience. Les Remarquables de Martell is expected to sell for nearly $1.1 million. More details are available on the Martell website.
