In a fitting tribute to French design legend Charlotte Perriand, Cassina has collaborated with Louis Vuitton to create a limited edition LC4 Chaise Lounge for the Cassina showroom at Art Basel, Miami Beach 2013. The showcase, which will also include a collection of her photographs and furniture designed by Perriand exclusively for Cassina, marks the 110th birth Anniversary of the French designer and architect. The new LC4 was inspired by a once controversial photograph of Perriand relaxing on one of the earliest models of the unique chaise and features a mattress made of the palest pink natural saddle leather contrasted with deep brown leather at the foot and headrest. The leather is all supplied by the Louis Vuitton tannery. The craftsmen at Louis Vuitton have long since created inspiring and artistic designs in leather and this will be no exception. Touted as the ‘ultimate relaxing machine’, the LC4 will have only 1000 pieces in production.
Together Cassina and Louis Vuitton are at the cutting edge of modern luxury and design and their collaboration on the new LC4 and the tribute exhibit promise to bring to connoisseurs the avant garde yet minimalist quality that truly defined Perriand’s design and aesthetic. The exhibition will be open on the 5th and 6th of December and the Tribute LC4 will be presented on the 5th at the Cassina Showroom in Miami.
