It pays to be an Oligarch – The rich in Russia are beating Coronavirus by getting early access to experimental COVID-19 vaccine since April

While each person is struggling to stay protected from the novel coronavirus, Russia has claimed that it is the rich who get first preference in warding off the evil eye! Days after the country’s scientists successfully developed a vaccine against the deadly virus, it is being reported that members of its business and elite political clan have been given early access to it.

In confirming the news, sources stated that those belonging to the creamy layer of the country’s population – including top executives at companies ( such as aluminum giant United Co. Rusal) as well as billionaire tycoons and government officials began getting shots developed by the state-run Gamaleya Institute in Moscow as early as April.

As remarked by an anonymous researcher, the early access was granted as part of a volunteer program and was secretly done to avoid a crush of potential participants. The vaccine is expected to be available in ‘civil circulation’ by August this year, with private companies receiving licenses for mass production by September.

In the past as well, rich Russians have come into the limelight for their notorious ways. In 2013, the country’s rich and powerful had converted ambulances into posh VIP taxis (operated at the rate of 6,000 rubles or $195 each hour) only to avoid getting stuck in the horrendous traffic of Moscow. Well, looks like money sure speaks volumes in Russia!
