With rapid development, it’s fitting that Saudi Arabia is recognized as a premier destination. Riyadh, the Kingdom’s capital, has won the bid to host the 2030 World Expo, becoming the second Middle Eastern city to do so after Dubai in 2020. Crown Prince MBS’s hometown outpaced competitors Rome and Busan, South Korea, in the race to host the event. The Riyadh Expo 2030 secured the bid with 119 out of 182 members of the Paris-based Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), the World Expo supervisor, voting in its favor, according to Dezeen.
An official social media statement from Riyadh Expo 2030 announced, “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its capital, Riyadh, will be the world’s destination at Expo 2030.” This event, held every five years, is scheduled from October 2030 to March 2031. Crown Prince MBS remarked, “The Kingdom’s selection as the host of the World Expo 2030 underscores its influential role and the international confidence it commands. Saudi Arabia has become an ideal location for major international events, including the esteemed World Expo.”
He also noted, “The World Expo 2030 aligns with a pivotal year for achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030. This Expo is an extraordinary opportunity to share with the world the lessons from our unprecedented journey of transformation.” The event will be conveniently located near the under-construction King Salman International Airport to facilitate easy commuting.
