In the day and age of tech-savvy kennels, first-class cabins for pets, pet holiday packages and pet salons, we are not stumped to know about The Dog Store, the new Hamptons outpost by the Upper East Side pet boutique, we are only surprised it took this long! I mean where else would uptown poodles and French bulldogs holidaying on Long Island go to for their luxury accessories?
From pretty pink leashes with crowns ($125) to faux-suede ottomans ($350) and Starwind beds ($600), the ‘Barneys for dogs’ store has everything to make your pet feel like a princess or prince. The shop which doubles as a canine salon, opened earlier this summer along the Montauk Highway.
The store is already a favorite among celebrities and have a clientele that includes Jennifer Lopez, Estée Lauder Group President John Demsey, Keith Richards’ manager Jane Rose and socialite Alison Brettschneider.
Unlike any pet shops you would have visited or heard of, the Dog Store welcomes its customers with a wafting scent of lavender, thanks to the aromatic oil used in the doggie baths. The walls are lined with Italian leather leashes in a rainbow of colors, ranging in price from $70 to $300. Every Thursdays and Fridays, like-minded pet parents gather at the store to discuss their animals, families and social calendar and every other Saturday, the pet owners enjoy a “Yappy Hour,” where they sip Champagne and nibble on miniature lobster rolls, while the lucky dogs snack on homemade gourmet treats, such as Poochi Sushi and Mutt Merlot and enjoy a private harp concert.
Jealous much? We may be.
