Life is precious, and time is money. Take it as your sign that maybe you need the world’s fastest armored vehicle. If you do, the US Armor Group has you covered. This American company has taken the world’s third fastest production electric vehicle, the Lucid Air Sapphire, and built the world’s fastest armored vehicle to satisfy even the most paranoid of billionaires. Given the $475,000 starting sticker price on the US Armor Group Lucid Air Sapphire, you may even have to be a Saudi Prince to think of ordering one.
But if you can’t put a value on your life, you’d be glad to hear this armored vehicle can withstand fire from a .44 Magnum as standard, as well as digital attacks thanks to beefed-up network security systems. It can also be upgraded with electric shock door handles, pepper spray dispensers, poison gas detection/protection and concealed gun posts.
The standard body is reinforced with military-grade armor that’s 10 times stronger than ballistic steel, yet five times stronger. In the Lucid’s transformation to the world’s quickest armored vehicle, it has put on a few pounds though. US Armor Group claims 385 pounds of weight is all that’s been added which is truly saying something. Armored vehicles are usually weighed down by the protection but in this case, it helps that the Lucid Air Sapphire was already so impressive in the performance department.
Getting the highlights out of the way — the Lucid Air Sapphire is an electric sedan that seats five passengers and can still leave a $350,000 McLaren 750S with 740 horsepower for dead at the lights. That’s thanks to the Lucid Air Sapphire’s trio of electric motors — one on the front axle and two at the rear — putting down 1,234 horsepower and 1,430 lb-ft of torque. The Sapphire managed the 0-60mph dash in 2.2 seconds, the quarter mile in 9.3 seconds, and has a top speed of 207mph. All this while offering a range of over 400 miles on a single charge when driven sedately.
While US Armor Group hasn’t disclosed the effect the additional weight will have on performance, it does claim its armored Lucid Air Sapphire can still top 200mph.
A regular Lucid Air Sapphire carries a $250,000 price tag, and this armored vehicle carries a starting price of nearly double that. With all the goodies thrown in, expect to spend a sizeable chunk more on one. But then again, you can’t put a price tag on life, especially when you’re worth millions if not billions.
