For a vessel to break free from the shadow of a rumored owner is no small feat. Breakthrough, hailed as the world’s first hydrogen-powered superyacht, comes with a staggering $645 million price tag, 14 balconies, two offices, a basketball court, and multiple libraries. Still, it was once best known as “the Bill Gates yacht.” That changed when news broke that the tech tycoon had backed out of the 390-foot motor yacht purchase.

The good news is that Bill Gates may never have stepped foot on the ship, which sails with a near-zero-diesel approach, but you can. The ship is finally getting to shine on its own at the largest yacht attending the 2025 Monaco Yacht Show (so far), scheduled for September 24 to 27, per Boat International.

While a larger yacht might still make a surprise appearance at the show, Breakthrough offers far more than sheer size, it’s the world’s first vessel powered by liquid hydrogen and a next-generation fuel cell system.

The Feadship masterpiece boasts design by the British studio RWD and all five decks are a lesson in yacht building. The 7,247 GT superyacht sleeps 30 guests in 15 rooms, but the pièce de résistance is the four-level townhouse-by-the-sea reserved for the owner.

Other amenities include a massive library, cinema, gym, fireplaces, and more. She is powered by triple MTU engines that propel her to a cruising speed of 14 knots and a top speed of 17 knots.Yet, her most remarkable feature lies in her energy system.

Storing just 543 kWh, Breakthrough’s advanced fuel cell technology allows for a full week of silent, zero-emission operation at anchor or clean cruising at 10 knots. Currently, Breakthrough is listed with Edmiston.
Note: We earlier reported that Breakthrough could have been sold to Canadian billionaire Patrick Dovigi, but the superyacht is still for sale and is listed with Edmiston.
