Perhaps unsurprisingly given its pedigree, the latest incarnation of the BMW 7 Series has picked up the award for the 2016 World Luxury Car of the Year. Beating the Audi Q7 and the Volvo XC90, the BMW 7 Series’ technical innovations, beautiful design, suburb luxury interior and sublime handling were more than enough reasons for it to grab the top spot. “This is the flagship model for [BMW], and so it simply has to be the epitome of what the brand represents in terms of technology, design and performance…it is very much the new face of BMW in the new family design – and yet it is a classic BMW all at once,” observed jurors of the award.
Not that we can predict the future or anything, but back in the middle of last year we wrote about just how incredible the latest 7 Series was. Other than the gorgeous shape, we simply loved the cabin’s classy interior, not to mention the programmable fragrance system and a roof that can replicate a starlit sky. Most exciting however, was the updated technological aspects of the 7 Series. Laserlight is a new feature of the car’s headlights, which can reach up to 600m and will also dim once a car approaching in the other direction is registered – a useful safety component to avoid dazzling a driver’s eyes in the parallel lane.
Finally, the car’s computer controls were a major hot topic, as in addition to touch screen and dial controlling, gesture and speech input can also be utilized for some aspects. Answering or declining a phone call can be achieved with the swipe of your hand, and turning up or down the volume of the speakers is made by circling your finger in the air. Simple voice commands such as ‘Call my wife’ are also attained in the new 7 Series. What’s more, drivers can employ the Remote Control Parking feature, as the BMW’s highly intelligent sensors mean the car will automatically park in a garage or narrow space.
Of course, the car’s V-spoke style 20″ alloy wheels are attention-grabbing to say the least, and can also be customized from nine possible designs. Keep in mind however, any alloys on a new car look far better when shining bright, so it’s worth putting in a lot of effort to keep them this way. Any serious motorist would do well to use an alloy wheel cleaner and tire shine spray found on this site, for example, as any luxury item should be kept luxurious.
