Curious how a $9 million Bugatti Centodieci hypercar can double in value within just two years? Just ask this billionaire who drove his for 3,000-miles and is now set to sell it for a staggering $19.5 million.

Serious car collectors of the world, take note: a single-owner $9 million Bugatti Centodieci is up for sale with an exotic car specialist in London, one of just ten ever made. Take note, not for the fact that this limited-run hypercar is up for grabs, giving another buyer the chance to be a lucky owner, in the company of fellow Centodieci-owner, footballer Cristiano Ronaldo.

But because the first owner has actually used his 1,600 horsepower hypercar, racking up 3,262 miles in the two years since he’s taken delivery — and still is expected to double the value of his car effectively.

The car is listed with a private exotic dealership and specialist, Joe Macari, in London. While the price of the Centodieci is not listed, it is expected to rake in over $19.5 million. Of course, the reason this hypercar has appreciated so greatly is thanks to its rarity. This despite the not-inconsiderable mileage on the odometer. It stands as a lesson to other car collectors — cars are meant to be driven. Even the super-rare, ultra-special ones.

Maybe even especially those, if the person racking up the miles has the same providence that this Centodieci’s owner has. The first owner is François Perrodo, a French entrepreneur and gentleman racer. So the car has been driven fast, and with skill, without a doubt.

The multibillionaire oil magnate, part of the family that owns oil drilling company Perenco, is said to have 46 sports cars in his garage, including a $15 million McLaren F1 GTR racecar. Perrodo also nearly topped up his tank with diesel instead of petrol one morning while driving with his friends.

Here’s hoping he’s taken a little more care of his Bugatti Centodieci, a hypercar that can dispense the 0-62mph dash in 2.4 seconds and go on to a top speed of 235mph. If that had happened, you can be sure the asking price would not be the eye-watering price it’s rumored to be currently. We can only wonder why the owner’s selling it in the first place, perhaps the new $4 million, 1,800 horsepower Bugatti Tourbillon has caught his fancy.
