Bugatti’s one-off W16 Mistral ‘La Perle Rare’ treats 1,578 hp like a mere accessory, wrapping the final quad-turbo in pearl-toned paint and gold detailing for a client discreet enough to vanish while their $8 million roadster steals every spotlight

The Bugatti W16 Mistral ‘La Perle Rare’ is what happens when the final chapter of an engine dynasty is treated like high jewelry. This is not merely another example of Bugatti’s farewell to the quad turbo W16. It is a one-off commission that transforms the fastest open top production car in the world into something closer to a rolling artifact.

At its core sits the last and most potent iteration of Bugatti’s 8.0-liter quad turbocharged W16, delivering 1,578 horsepower and 1,180 lb-ft of torque through a seven-speed dual clutch transmission and all-wheel drive. The Mistral platform has already written its name into the record books with a 282 mph open top speed run, closing the W16 era with unapologetic force. Only 99 Mistrals will exist, each starting above five million dollars. La Perle Rare goes well beyond that baseline.

The commission began at Pebble Beach in 2023, where the mystery client met Bugatti’s Sur Mesure team and set in motion a two-year creative process. The concept draws inspiration from the soft glow of a pearl, built around light, reflection, and layered depth. Two entirely new bespoke paints were developed for this car alone.

A warm gold infused hue crowns the upper surfaces, while a refined warm white envelops the lower body. The dividing lines between them required hundreds of hours of hand masking and paintwork to achieve a flawless transition that captures and bends light across the body.

The detailing extends to the diamond cut wheels, finished in a custom mix that mirrors the gold and white interplay. Inside, the pearl theme intensifies. Carbon fiber components are painted white to create a jewel like cockpit, while gold linework flows across the sculpted door panels. Warm ambient lighting and polished aluminum trim amplify the sense of glow and reflection.

Rembrandt Bugatti’s famed Dancing Elephant appears in the gear selector and on the body panels just behind the front wheels.

The handwritten “La Perle Rare” script appears stitched, engraved, and painted throughout the car, turning the designer’s signature into a permanent mark of authorship. Even the historic Dancing Elephant motif is integrated into the gear selector and exterior panels, tying this luminous roadster to Bugatti’s artistic heritage.

With the standard W16 Mistral already a €5 million hypercar, and this one-off widely believed to sit in the $8 million to $9 million range, La Perle Rare is not just the end of the W16, it is its final polish.

Two completely bespoke hues define ‘La Perle Rare’: a golden tone with warm highlights paired with a refined warm white.
