Just like her books and movies, even Samsara, JK Rowling’s incredible Oceanco superyacht, is a hit in charter circles. So much so that the luxury vessel, whose Sanskrit name means the cycle of life, death and rebirth, is the most travelled superyacht in 2025. According to BOATPro, Samsara has covered 31,590 nautical miles in a single year. That is roughly 58,500 kilometers, about one and a half laps of the planet, and an average of almost 90 nautical miles every single day. The 291-foot vessel, which previously cruised under the names Infinity and Cloud 9, now belongs to the world’s first billionaire author and is setting its own records.
Samsara completed a refit and never looked back; her busy year commenced in Norway at the end of February 2025. The $150 million pleasure craft then sprinted across the Atlantic to the Caribbean to catch the end of the winter season. One would imagine she would probably catch her breath, but the 2,914 GT vessel, in shipshape condition, immediately transited the Panama Canal for some exotic explorations.
Instead of routine and chaotic Mediterranean locales, Samsara was cruising in picturesque Alaska and the Pacific Northwest at the height of summer, then making a long sweep down the Pacific, out to Hawaii and onward into French Polynesia, including Tahiti, where she was photographed in Papeete in September 2025.
The decade-old ship, with exterior design by Espen Øino and interiors by Sinot Yacht Design & Architecture, managed all that in a year thanks to a range of over 4,500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of about 16 knots. The real reason why the Oceanco beauty could accomplish these numbers is heavily influenced by the wonders she holds.
With not one or two but three pools, a massive beach club with bar and lounge seating, and a full gym and wellness area with spa treatment facilities, she is quite the entertainer in the middle of nowhere. Samsara typically sleeps 12 to 14 guests across seven luxurious cabins, including a full-beam owner’s suite and several VIP staterooms, all attended by a crew of 27 to 28, delivering a true hotel-level experience at sea.
She is certainly a reflection of Rowling’s insurmountable success as one of the world’s bestselling authors, with more than 600 million copies sold. Her work, which translated into an equally blockbuster movie series, can be enjoyed in a cinema on board that is big enough for a proper group movie night. The impressive owner’s deck features a separate office, lounge, his-and-hers bathrooms, dressing rooms, and direct access to a private outdoor lounge with a Jacuzzi. What is not to like here?
Samsara can be chartered for about $1.1 million per week, and with 31,590 nautical miles, or roughly one and a half times around the Earth at the equator, she has earned quite the splendid stipend. According to Luxurylaunches’ calculations, Samsara’s 31,590 nautical miles can be divided among roughly 16 to 20 charter weeks in a packed year of near-perpetual charters. That gives us an estimate of charter revenue between about $18- $22 million a year, while it is leading the show as a star superyacht that people cannot get enough of.
The yacht’s operating economics are equally fascinating. Vessels of this size typically cost around $10-$15 million annually to maintain. Samsara’s strong charter performance means it could nearly cover its entire running costs, a rare feat even among the world’s elite yachts. Clearly, this is not just an indulgence for the owner who once had trouble scraping together bus fare, but a relentless roaming charter machine that can almost pay for its own existence. The beautiful Oceanco boat is evidently catering to an elite clientele that does not do run-of-the-mill St Tropez and St Barths but prefers the most pristine places on the planet from Alaska, French Polynesia, and the Philippines.
Samsara is followed by the 226-foot Damen Yachting support vessel Intrepid. The vessel carries a helicopter, comes with an enclosed hangar, a dive centre, a hospital, and huge storage for toys and tenders. Surpassing Samsara on BOAT’s 2025 mileage list were three vessels that are essentially expedition or research platforms, namely OceanXplorer, Hanse Explorer, and Aqua Lares. As far as private superyachts are concerned, J.K Rowling’s superyacht Samsara ruled the roost.
