Samsara is Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling’s sprawling 291-foot superyacht. It is a beauty indeed, one of Oceanco’s finest creations. Yet, the only disappointment for me was that you could never guess it belonged to Rowling. There is no hint of her imagination, Harry Potter or otherwise, in the interiors, no mystique reflecting that it is the possession of one of the world’s greatest and most famous writers.
In most cases, yacht owners have spaces or even entire boats that act as extensions of their personalities. Perhaps Samsara is Rowling’s escape from her writing realities, although it was during a journey on a train from Manchester to London in 1990 that her path to Harry Potter began.
Anyway, while Samsara may lack the fantasy world one expects Rowling to be enveloped in, it oozes extravagance and elegance. It is perhaps a well-deserved place of solace for a once-struggling mother who described herself as being “as poor as it is possible to be in modern Britain without being homeless,” relying on welfare to take care of her daughter while writing in cafés. The 2,914 GT luxury vessel is packed with grandeur and is every bit a lavish charter yacht offering endless entertainment and activities. Let’s take a closer look at this magnificent motor yacht:
A motor yacht fit for a literary queen-
There may be no shifting staircases or sorting hats aboard Samsara, but there are plenty of spaces to ponder, relax, and indulge in some squealing fun. The yacht, designed by renowned architect Espen Øino, with interiors by Sinot Exclusive Yacht Design and David Kleinberg Design Associates, sleeps 12 guests and the owner across seven cabins. The master suite is an extravagant retreat, opening to a massive deck and a private jacuzzi.
Samsara also boasts amenities like a fully-equipped gym, a wellness area, a beautiful round swimming pool, and a large beach club flanked by an arsenal of water toys. While certainly opulent, the motor yacht of this celebrated laureate of children’s literature, which charters for around $1.2 million a week, also feels like a cozy home away from home.
Interestingly, while Samsara features a cutting-edge cinema, it does not have a library in sight. For someone whose homes have always been filled with books and whose life revolves around reading, it is rather curious. Even Bill Gates, a voracious reader, included a massive library on his hydrogen-powered $645 million superyacht, Breakthrough.
Still, watching any of the seven Harry Potter movies aboard this vessel, adrift in the middle of nowhere, seems like an enticing offer for any fan. Powered by a pair of high-performance MTU engines, Samsara reaches a top speed of 20 knots and cruises comfortably at 14 knots. With a range of over 4,500 nautical miles, the yacht is perfect for long, luxurious voyages. Samsara yacht can be chartered for a cool $1.2 million a week.
About J.K. Rowling-
The inspiring woman who went from living in mouse-ridden homes in Scotland during hard times to owning a splendid $150 million luxury vessel is also a serious philanthropist. She supports a wide range of humanitarian causes through her charitable trust, Volant. Worth nearly $1 billion, Rowling, according to Newsweek, earns between $50 million and $100 million each year from Harry Potter royalties alone. She owns multiple properties, including a Georgian house in Kensington, a large home in Edinburgh, and her childhood home in Tutshill, Gloucestershire. Her main residence is in Edinburgh, where she lives with her family, including her children.
