The Benetti-built, 282-foot luxury yacht Kingdom 5KR, owned by Saudi Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, is known for its lavish features and unparalleled history. Of late, it has been talked about not owing to the opulence but the recurring oops-moments involving the $90 million vessel. On October 12th, it was reported the ship grabbed eyeballs in the marina of Bizerte in Tunisia due to an accident as the pleasure craft hit the main quay of the port, causing visible damage not only to the quay but also to the keel and hull at the front of the boat.
According to the popular YouTube Channel eSysman SuperYachts, that was the second time since the yacht’s departure from Sanremo in Italy that the vessel, known as Nabila in the 1980s, was involved in a mishap. In fact, her journey began at the port when she was docked next to the superyacht Roe. While departing from her berth to head to Tunisia, the Kingdom 5KR, the ship collided with the yacht parked next to her owing to heavy winds.
Allegedly, the stern of superyacht Kingdom 5KR made heavy contact with the portholes and bow of Roe, harshly scraping down the beautiful vessel during the maneuver. Interestingly, the lavish 1980 Classic Yacht, named after Prince Al-Waleed’s investment company Kingdom Holdings, was completed a seven-month refit in March this year at the Mariotti shipyard in Genoa before making its way to her base in the port of Sanremo.
The Roe yacht, on the other hand, is a 241-foot Turquoise-built motor yacht delivered in 2021. Designed by the renowned yacht designer Andrea Vallicelli, the boat features interior design by Ken Freivokh Design and sleeps 14 guests. Not much is known about the 1,684 GT vessel except that she is owned by a secretive South American billionaire.
