Lürssen, the shipyard that has built some of the world’s largest and most luxurious superyachts, has teamed up with Rolls-Royce to revolutionize refits and transform yacht overhauls with sustainable upgrades

When two forces join together, excellence is guaranteed. I’m talking about superyacht stalwarts Lürssen and Rolls-Royce, who are collaborating to revolutionize the yacht refit industry. The iconic brands have agreed to streamline the overhaul process for Rolls-Royce’s mtu propulsion systems, which are a key component in most yachts built at Lürssen. This partnership not only enhances the yard’s reputation but also aims to develop the international refit market.

Rolls-Royce’s Power Systems division and Lürssen’s Yacht Refit & Services have signed a framework agreement that formalizes their cooperation in the overhaul of MTU propulsion systems. This collaboration will significantly improve service for yacht owners. It is a crucial milestone, as many of the world’s largest yachts are constructed by Lürssen, which offers refit solutions for the overhaul, modernization, and conversion of yachts up to nearly 200 meters long. Lürssen is behind sea-faring giants like 512-feet Dilbar, 446-feet Flying Fox, 466-feet Nord, and 311-feet Madsummer.

The partnership will also incorporate cutting-edge technologies to ensure sustainable yacht operations, meeting the growing demand for eco-conscious refits. Additionally, it will considerably reduce the time required for engine and propulsion system overhauls, particularly for MTU Series 4000 engines.

“This partnership between two premium suppliers in yacht construction and propulsion enables us to play a key role in the international market and strengthen our focus in the marine business,” said Denise Kurtulus, Senior Vice President, Global Marine at Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
