The Rimac Nevera became the fastest electric car in the world in May 2023, setting 22 other performance records at the same time, including the all-important 0-249-0mph record of performance and braking. The 1,914 horsepower all-electric hypercar bagged the title for the world’s fastest production electric car, as well as the title of the most performance records broken on the same day — 23 in total.
The product of CEO of Rimac Automobili, Mate Rimac, the Nevera is only the second production model the boutique electric hypercar company has released. And 36-year-old Mate Rimac has just taken delivery of his very own personalized Nevera in red-tinted carbon, becoming one of the youngest owners of the $2.2 million Rimac Nevera.
Mate Rimac, by his own admission, was one of his own company’s most demanding customers, specifying his Nevera in an exposed carbon weave throughout the car, with red accents and hand-painted Croatian flags to honor his country. Of course, as the owner of the very hypercar company making the Rimac Nevera, it’s but a given that his own hypercar would be nothing but perfect.
For example, the exposed carbon weave panels on this Nevera all line up in one orientation across the car. This meant that some panels had to be redone when not millimeter perfect. In addition, the carbon weave was tinted red, with red accents around the car, including a red anodized badge.
There’s even an homage to the storms that gave the car its name in the customized light pattern under the rear spoiler.
The inside of Mate Rimac’s Nevera is no less special, having been specified in an asymmetric colorway, with one side of the cabin in black and the other in red. Rimac has also specified a number of personal motifs inside the car, including one of ‘Solinjaka’ or the girl from Solin, an interpretation of a sculpture in the Zagreb Archaeological Museum.
It’s not rare that the owner of a supercar or hypercar company takes delivery of their own product, after all there’s no better marketing ploy than to be seen in a car that hasn’t been released yet.
But for Mate Rimac to take delivery of a Nevera years after it was first released, having debuted as a prototype in 2021 with the first customer car delivery to F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg in 2022, makes the whole process seem more authentic. And for a hypercar boutique trying to stand out in a world of impressive numbers, that makes all the difference.
