Mercedes-Benz has partnered with a company that makes $2,000 winter jackets and a Japanese DJ to create a fashion-inspired limited-edition off-roader based on the G-Wagen from the 90s

Last year, Mercedes-Benz collaborated with Italian fashion house Moncler to create an outlandish one-off vehicle based on the classic G-Wagen. Called Project Mondo G, the absurd three-door G-Class 4×4 was dressed in Moncler’s shiny puffer jacket. The German automaker has expanded the Project G-Class by introducing a new iteration of the G-Wagen from the 1990s, co-created with Moncler and renowned Japanese musician and designer NIGO. Thankfully, the new ‘Project G-Class Past II Future’ is not as extreme as the previous creation that came from the partnership.

The exterior features a two-tone finish that combines military green on the front section with silver for the rest of the SUV. The tail features a gold-colored canister and a rear-mounted spare wheel. The removable roof is covered in Moncler’s signature puffer jacket, this time around in black. According to Mercedes, the distinct pattern and the soft lines of the quilted roof create an “unexpected contrast to the strong silhouette of the vehicle.”

Inside the cabin, the seats are upholstered in a fabric with a checkered pattern, while the center console gets an individually numbered plaque. All the elements combine classic design with contemporary functionality. There are plenty of orange and gold accents in addition to a restored wooden rear floor, along with a boom box. Built for power and clarity, the custom sound system was designed by New York artist Devon Turnbull.

Buyers will get the option to choose between two six-cylinder engines from the current-generation G-Class: G450’s 375hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six or the more powerful engine from the G500 that can churn out 443 horsepower. Only 20 examples of the Project G-Class Past II Future will be made.

The pricing has not been revealed yet, but deliveries will begin in April 2025. “For me, the ‘90s were among the most influential decades from a cultural and creative standpoint,” said NIGO. “Electronic music and the hip-hop scene arose as a new expression of urban character. I wanted to integrate that vibe and energy into the design of the Project G-Class Past II Future by interpreting that legacy for a new contemporary era.”
