With the Simply Custom range, shipyard Oceanco is delivering one perfect sailing dream after another. These may be concepts, but they are splendid ones at that. Thankfully, the Dutch luxury yacht builder has 12 stunning designs in this collection. The latest addition, joining the ranks of Espen Øino’s Superleggera 80 and Enrico Gobbi’s Silver Ocean, is the designer Jay Aberdoni’s 262-foot concept named Standby. Like most yachts in this collection, Standby boasts an impressive volume of 2,500–2,700 GT.
While the exterior and interior design of this pleasure craft are undeniably remarkable, the only aspect that feels less inspired is its name. The designer explains that the name Standby reflects the stillness of the exterior lines and the elimination of the unnecessary, emphasizing only the essentials in the most aesthetic way. However, the term “standby” doesn’t quite evoke the reaction this stunning ship deserves.
The vessel showcases beautiful proportions, epitomized in its geometrically layered deck layout. Its abundance of open areas and lounges invites guests to fully immerse themselves in the vistas. Our favorite spot is, undoubtedly, the bow, which features a charming Bimini shielding guests from the wind as they revel in views available only from this exclusive vantage point.
The sundeck is another highlight, with a deck pool flanked by sun loungers, a spacious alfresco dining table on the upper deck, and a side-opening balcony for tender pickups.
No luxury yacht is complete without a stellar beach club, and Standby is no exception. Its beach club is a luxurious haven inspired by classic Japanese dojos, with clean lines and minimalistic spaces. It doubles as a gym or spa, featuring tatami flooring, natural materials, and geometric shapes. Serenity is the central theme, effortlessly reflected throughout the design.
As with any Simply Custom vessel, accommodation is spread across seven cabins, including a sumptuous owner’s suite. Additional amenities include a helipad, a cinema room, and other indulgent features. While the concept is undeniably extraordinary, we can’t help but feel that a name like Simplicity would have elevated the yacht to a perfect 10.
