Roman Abramovich once paid a whopping $2.9 million to Lady Gaga for a 90-minute concert on his $600 million megayacht

For some, life is a beach. But for the more affluent and enterprising humans, life happens on the high seas. The man in question is none other than Russian billionaire Roman Abromovich who owns a few of the most impressive and largest superyachts in the world and sets the standard high when it comes to using them. The Chelsea F.C owner is the proud owner of a nearly 550 feet Eclipse superyacht that is one of the world’s largest vessels. It goes without saying that the parties happening on a $600 million yacht will also be extravagant that even the crème de la crème won’t forget.

One such swanky event aboard Abromovich’s Eclipse was held at a New Year’s Eve party back in 2013. The billionaire paid Lady Gaga a staggering $2.9 million to perform at his star-studded bash.

It is believed that the $2.9 mil comprised a $1 million bonus just for playing a 90-minute concert on New Year’s Eve. The lavish bash on the insanely-opulent ship was a gift for Abramovich’s partner, Daria Zhukova, a big fan of the wild singer. The A-list event had a whopping 300 guests in attendance, including big names like Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs, Beyoncé Knowles, and her husband, Jay-Z.

It wasn’t the first time the Russian billionaire showed the world how to ring in the New Year in style. In 2011, Mr. Abramovich welcomed the New Year with a nearly $7 million bash on the Caribbean island of St Barts. It was reported the Chelsea F.C owner looked downright bored while the crowd that included names like Salma Hayek and Demi Moore couldn’t stop enjoying the stirring performance from chart-topping rappers, the Black-Eyed Peas.

Abramovich loves his yachts and loves throwing amazing parties on them even more. At his 2009 bash, the Russian oligarch spent $4 million regaling high-profile guests such as Orlando Bloom and Kanye West to performances by Prince, Gwen Stefani, and Beyonce.

Abramovich is believed to have paid Prince almost $700,000 for his stint. About the venue of all these larger-than-life events, the $590 million mammoth is divided into nine decks and holds one main helipad on the front.

The granite floor of the pool rises to sit flush with the deck to form a dance floor where a lot of the action assumably took place. We would know better if it wasn’t for the high-tech anti-paparazzi system that detects and disrupts a potential picture.

It indeed seems to be the cherry on the cake for celebrities who get to attend a great party and don’t dread dealing with paps. The superyacht is fitted with intruder detection alarms and a missile defense system to ensure the safety of all the illustrious personalities onboard.

In other forms of entertainment, Eclipse consists of 6,000 sq ft of living space (and 600 doors) some of the amenities include a fully equipped 77 square meter gym, beach club, beauty salon, tender garage, and deck Jacuzzi.
