When Saudi supercar enthusiast Dhiaa Al-Essa decided to honor his late grandmother’s memory, he didn’t opt for a scholarship fund or hand-painted portrait. Instead, he commissioned a one-off $3.4 million Pagani Utopia dubbed “La Nonna”, Italian for “The Grandmother”. The Pagani ‘La Nonna’ was conceived in the memory of the owner’s late grandmother, featuring fully exposed carbon bodywork with a Nero Kajal tint.

The Utopia hypercar represents the pinnacle of Pagani’s craftsmanship, built around Mercedes-AMG’s twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine developing 864 horsepower. But what sets this Utopia apart isn’t just its aesthetic, inspired by the traditional black eye makeup worn by Middle-Eastern women. It’s the intricate details that would make any grandmother proud. The black exterior is complemented by polished center-lock wheels, while the interior receives bespoke touches in the form of embroidered drawings made by the owner’s children.

The touching ode to the owner’s ‘Nonna’ extends to a set of personalized luggage. La Nonna also serves as a tribute to the legendary Zonda ‘La Nonna’ chassis number 76002, which served as a prototype for various Zonda iterations, and is now housed in the Pagani museum.

Dhiaa Al-Essa, known for his collection of 30 luxury cars at age 21, has created something uniquely touching with La Nonna. While most people leave flowers at graves, he’s going to be leaving tire marks on the road, and somehow, it feels entirely appropriate.

This special project showcases how modern hypercar culture intersects with personal narratives. In an era where supercars often feel sterile and specification-focused, La Nonna reminds us that these machines can carry emotional weight beyond their carbon fiber construction. This Pagani Utopia is a rolling memorial, one that happens to reach 217 mph and weighs just 2,822 pounds.

Perhaps Nonna would have preferred something more practical, but she’d undoubtedly appreciate the craftsmanship. Not to mention the fact that her memory is now in rarefied territory, a 1-of-1 Utopia joining the ranks of only 130 units produced in total.
