The renowned German shipbuilder Lürssen has revealed more information on its latest maritime marvel, the stunning 142.1-meter superyacht christened Dragonfly. After years of secretive development under the project name Ali Baba, the vessel was finally delivered at the beginning of this month to Google’s co-founder Sergey Brin.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, Dragonfly features a sophisticated design resulting from a collaboration between German Frers, who conceived its exterior, and Nauta Design, responsible for the interior spaces. The yacht boasts a sleek grey profile that commands attention, with bold architectural lines sweeping across its four expansive decks.
The vessel’s interior is a testament to luxury and functionality, spanning nearly 9,500 gross tons. Noteworthy amenities include a transparent-bottomed swimming pool, a private cinema, comprehensive spa facilities, and a dedicated water sports center. A particularly distinctive feature is a specialized business deck equipped with a professional office, fitness area, entertainment room, and even a helicopter hangar.
Dragonfly’s most groundbreaking innovation lies in its stern design – a sophisticated, double-folding platform system that transforms the deck into a spacious beach club with seamless water access. This engineering marvel exemplifies Lürssen’s commitment to pushing nautical design boundaries.
Company managing partner Peter Lürssen emphasized the yacht’s technological prowess, highlighting its efficient diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system developed entirely in-house. The vessel is engineered to navigate global waters with exceptional efficiency and performance.
The yacht is also equipped with six Starlink dishes, four at the front and two more further aft, for uninterrupted internet service, which is quite important considering Brin is back at Google to oversee the company’s AI ambitions.
The yacht’s journey has been as intriguing as its design. First glimpsed in May 2022 when moved in two separate sections, Dragonfly briefly made headlines in December 2023 following an unexpected technical incident at Lürssen’s Bremen facilities. With its delivery, Dragonfly joins an elite class of sophisticated maritime vessels, continuing Lürssen’s legacy of creating some of the world’s most impressive superyachts.
