A dream superyacht charter turned into a nightmare when a crew member left a door open, eventually sinking the $55 million vessel. An affluent group had rented the 150-footer for $180,000 a week in Greece.

One man’s error is another man’s Titanic! In an unforeseeable catastrophe, an affluent group fell prey to a terrifying moment when their stunning Italian superyacht sank near an idyllic Greek holiday island. The weather turned, leaving the crew with little time to close the door. This misstep—leaving a side door open—resulted in the sinking of the 150-foot megayacht ‘Ethos.’

The yacht had been chartered by a wealthy group of five for $180,000 a week, who had boarded the beautiful Admiral boat thinking it would be a trip to remember. Ironically, it was, and the azure blue waters off the coast of Kefalonia in Paleokaravo Bay won’t be forgotten by them anytime soon.

Fortunately, the guests and crew disembarked to safety, leaving behind the frightening sight of the motor yacht Ethos heading towards disaster with its lower deck completely submerged in the bay, per The Sun. According to local Greek media, a diver was employed to study the local reefs while guards attempted to recover the yacht from Evretis Bay, where it was anchored.

The cause of the incident is yet to be determined, reports local outlet Protothema, but videos showing massive waves lashing at the Admiral superyacht with Greek-inspired interiors could be responsible.

Superyacht Ethos, with interiors designed by Njord Bergman Design House, was delivered to her new owners in September 2023. Unfortunately, the owners couldn’t enjoy the beautiful boat for even a year. The luxury vessel, worth $55 million, was a vision with an impressive owner’s cabin and main saloon. The owner’s suite featured a walk-in wardrobe and a custom, full-width desk for work. The Ethos superyacht slept 12 guests in six stately cabins with nine staff members. For entertainment, there was a lively beach club, a soothing sauna, and a gym.
