Only the shrewdest businessmen know how to find opportunity in the worst of situations, and YouTuber Cody Detwiler (aka WhistlinDiesel) with his latest move deserves to be considered as one of them. While most influencers end up destroying rare and expensive automobiles hoping to recoup the money through ad revenue, Cody found a way to make money out of the remains of the vehicles he destroyed to create viral content. You might remember that the American influencer came up with a series of videos around his $400,000 Ferrari F8 Tributo in which he badly abuses the supercar by carrying out a bunch of crazy stunts.
In the final video, the Ferrari is ultimately burnt down to a crisp after driving it like a madman in a cornfield. Obviously, the charred remains of the Ferrari could only be deemed as useless. But Cody came up with the idea to shred what was left of his Ferrari and sell it to his fans. Brilliant!
In his latest video, he talks about this genius idea of selling the shredded remains of the Ferrari to his fans as souvenirs. The video also goes through the whole process, which includes sorting all the parts, clearing them of all the debris and plastic bits, grinding them into shape, and finally putting them into clear acrylic boxes. Each cube is individually signed by the influencer and contains around a full pound of metal from the vehicle. Interestingly, the Ferrari isn’t the only vehicle that got the same treatment. Cody also filmed a series of videos featuring a red Mercedes-AMG G63, which was put through multiple durability tests and endured a lot of abuse. The fire-breathing luxury SUV was damaged beyond repair and was also ultimately shredded to bits and boxed to be sold to fans.
It’s a well-known fact that Ferrari doesn’tlike people messing around with its brand image and is quick to slap people with notices and lawsuits for not meeting their ownership guidelines. First burning down their supercar and then shredding it to bits to be sold as a souvenir is nothing less than sacrilege. Maybe that’s why the influencer did not name the vehicles in the boxes that he is selling. The online store selling them has 729 boxes full of “Pieces of a Fast Red Italian Supercar” and 899 cubes full of “Pieces of a Red German Luxury SUV.” He even refrains from naming the vehicles in the video. The box containing the parts from Ferrari is priced at $229 each, while the box with the remains of the G-Wagen costs $189. But you’ll be surprised that all boxes have been snapped up within a few days they went on sale. Absolute madness!
