YouTuber Carter Sharer turned what could have been an embarrassing $30,000 mistake into one of his most creative projects yet. Earlier this year, Sharer spotted what was listed as a “neatly used” Bugatti on Alibaba and decided to take a chance on the suspiciously cheap supercar. After months of waiting, a massive crate finally arrived at his doorstep.
The unboxing video captured his growing concern as a black and red shape emerged from the packaging, revealing a hollow foam shell with no engine, no interior, and wheels that wouldn’t even turn.
To put this in perspective, actual Bugatti parts cost more than what Sharer spent on his foam Bugatti. A single set of tires for a Bugatti Veyron runs around $40,000, and even crashed Bugattis with salvage titles sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Sharer’s foam replica wasn’t even worth the crate it shipped in, with sloppy paint work and construction that looked like a high school art project.
But rather than accepting defeat, Sharer decided to bring his fake Bugatti to life. His team sourced an RC off-road monster truck and stripped away its body, leaving just the powerful two-stroke engine and drivetrain. They mounted the entire RC mechanism onto a wooden chassis that could support the foam Bugatti’s weight. Initial tests with just the wooden frame showed promise as the RC truck had enough power to move around smoothly.
The real magic happened when they carefully placed the full foam Bugatti body on top of the wooden chassis and RC components. Not only could Sharer drive his creation around using the remote control, but the structure proved strong enough that he could actually sit on top and ride it like the world’s first fake Bugatti go-kart. What started as an obvious scam became what Sharer now proudly calls the “coolest Bugatti ever.” That’s pretty debatable, but it sure is the most fake Bugatti ever to hit the pavement.
