The Qiddiya megaproject just outside the Saudi Arabian city of Riyadh will soon be home to one of the most unique and innovative race tracks in the world that promises to “push the boundaries of motorsports to the extreme.” Designed by legendary F1 designer Hermann Tilke, the Speed Park Track in Qiddiya City will feature a configurable format that will combine both street and circuit sections that can be extended into one of the world’s longest racetracks.
With the aim to elevate Saudi Arabia to the top spot of motorsport and make it one of the world’s leading motorsport venues, the ground-breaking race track will blend functionality with state-of-the-art technology as part of plans to host some of the world’s most prestigious racing events, a press release said.
The design team behind the Speed Park Track also collaborated with former F1 driver Alexander Wurz to come up with the unique layout of the race track. The highlight of the racing circuit will be the extraordinary “Blade” at turn one — an elevated section that rises more than 20 stories above the ground. The high-speed corner will rise and fall by a massive 108 meters, allowing race cars to attain top speed in the most fascinating fashion.
In addition to that, the main straight will race along the world’s tallest rollercoaster, Falcon’s Flight, which is part of the neighboring Six Flags Qiddiya City venue. In fact, the circuit will feature street and fast open track sections that will be fully integrated into Qiddiya’s neighboring attractions. Furthermore, there will be multiple vantage points and viewing terraces for fans that will be constructed around the track.
Abdullah Al-Dawood, managing director of the Qiddiya Investment Co., said: “The Speed Park Track will be a true embodiment of Qiddiya’s power of play philosophy and will position Qiddiya City as the home of Saudi motorsport and one of the world’s leading motorsport venues. Visitors and spectators will be treated to one of the most unique and immersive race experiences in the world with this pioneering track, designed by race drivers, for race drivers, ready to host some of the world’s biggest motorsport events.”
