Virgin Australia is trying to make the middle seat more appealing by offering $150,000 in prizes

There’s nothing worse than being cramped up in the middle seat of a flight. However, ensuring that there is a silver lining to it after all is Virgin Australia. The airline has introduced prizes worth a cool $237132 for middle seat passengers. Yes, that’s right! The initiative called the Virgin Australia Middle Seat Lottery aims to reward fliers for booking the middle seat on the carrier’s domestic flights. As part of it, those booking in line with the program will stand a chance to win 26 different prizes.

These include an adventure package in Cairns with accommodation, return flights, and an itinerary including bungy jumping, giant swinging, tubing in the great Barron River and river rafting, platinum Velocity Frequent Flyer Status, and one million Velocity points, a cruise in the Caribbean with Virgin Voyages, inclusive of return premium economy flights to the US with United Airlines and a helicopter pub crawl in Darwin with return flights.

However, to be eligible for the Middle Seat Lottery one needs to be a Velocity Frequent Flyer member aged 18 years or older and fly with Virgin Australia in any middle seat before 23 April 2023. Further, passengers need to open the Virgin Australia app and tap the Middle Seat Lottery tile within 48 hours of their flight’s scheduled departure time to enroll for the bountiful prizes.

To announce the launch of the program, Virgin Australia Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka surprised each guest in a middle seat on recent flight VA219 from Melbourne to Adelaide with a Virgin Voyages sailing trip valued at up to USD5,999. Further, aisle and window seat passengers also received 10,000 Velocity points as a consolation.
