The flagship platinum Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date 36 and 40 models have been updated with a fluted bezel

Rolex has updated the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date, the flagship model in the Swiss brand’s dress watch lineup, which was revealed at this year’s Watches and Wonders trade show. Although the most prominent change received by the updated version is not that huge, it has practically transformed the look of the timepiece. Just like all platinum Rolex models, the platinum Oyster Perpetual Day-Date versions featured smooth bezels till now. However, that tradition has been broken with the new platinum Day-Date watches by adding fluted bezels, which have traditionally been limited to only gold models. Both 36 and 40mm versions of the platinum Oyster Perpetual Day-Date will now be available with fluted bezels and this small change will only further increase the popularity of the model, in our opinion.

Seen in the photos here is the platinum Day-Date 40mm with the “Ice Blue” dial, which is arguably the most beautiful version of the model. In fact, the dial is exclusively available on the platinum model. And it goes without saying that it’s also one of the most sought-after Rolex pieces. You might remember that the former president of the US, Donald Trump, was recently gifted a platinum model with a highly-desirable Ice Blue dial by a YouTuber that was reportedly purchased for a whopping $105,000. However, the gifted Rolex being an old version features a smooth bezel.

The updated Day-Date 40mm with the Ice Blue dial can also be seen with a royal blue-colored second-hand that beautifully contrasts the dial. In addition to the fluted bezel on the platinum versions, Rolex has also introduced a number of new dial colors or yellow gold, white gold, and Everose gold models. Everything else is pretty much unchanged, which means it still has the same dial layout with the day window at 12 o’clock and the date at 3 o’clock.

It also retains the Caliber 3255 that debuted in 2015 along with the famous three-link “President” bracelet with its semi-circular links and hidden clasp. Pricing starts at $41,900 for 40mm versions. In the case of platinum models, the pricing is listed as “on request.”
