The $163,000 Apple watch is clad in gold and encrusted with diamonds

For the first time in Apple’s history, the tech giant has forayed into the luxury segment by introducing a product that commands prestige pricing. Yes, we are talking about the new Apple Watch. With a price tag of $17k, the Apple Watch Edition is the costliest item in the company’s product line-up and aims to disrupt the $38 billion Swiss watch industry. However, this hasn’t deterred the luxury customization companies from announcing their own uber-luxe iterations of the Apple Watch. Even before Apple officially introduced its new wearable, customization company Brikk announced their own special edition version of the Apple Watch priced at $70,000. Now renowned gadget gilder Goldgenie has revealed its premium collection of customized Apple Watches wrapped in solid 18-carat gold and encrusted with precision cut diamonds.

goldgenie-apple-watch-1Dubbed the ‘Spectrum’ collection, it comprises of both the Stainless Steel and 18 carat Gold Edition Apple Watches as starting points and spans several jaw-dropping designs in an array of luxe finishes and materials. In addition to the premium customization of the watch, Goldgenie will also offer python straps in “vivid hues of Seville Orange, Fuchsia Pink, Sea Green, Black and Cherry Red,” and straps of beige and black topgrain calf leather, natural toned python, and crocodile skin. Prices start at £2,000 ($3000 approximately) for a gold plated stainless steel Apple Watch and go up to £110,000 ($163,000 approx) for the full diamond encrusted solid 18k Gold Apple Watch Edition models. Goldgenie founder and CEO, Laban Roomes, said: “The Apple Watch will surely change the face of time and how we handle it. We all have a choice in what we do with time and we want to help people really make it their own. Time is a gift and a luxury customized Apple Watch will be a great reminder of this.” Goldgenie will start accepting preorders for the complete range of customized Apple Watches starting April 9th, one day before Apple lets customers see the original Apple Watch in its Apple Stores, and two weeks before Apple actually ships them.
