Louis Vuitton has unveiled a one-of-a-kind Mount Fuji pocket watch with 561 components, 60 sapphires, Ebisu, cherry blossoms, and hidden Monogram flowers, while cleverly hiding the time on its caseback instead of the dial

Louis Vuitton is taking you to Japan in the most poetic and artistic way possible. There is no airplane on this trip, but there is a boat. There are no passengers, but there is a fisherman. There are no outfits, yet there are LV trunks, and this experience is not meant to be documented in selfies and images, but enjoyed timelessly through an instrument of art and horology. The Louis Vuitton Escale au Mont Fuji pocket watch is an ode to Japan, bringing together its most evocative elements, from the revered Mount Fuji and a soft dawn sky to cherry blossoms and a central character who looks perfectly at ease in this immaculate setting.

This scene comes alive through the pocket watch’s jacquemart mechanism, minute repeater, and tourbillon, alongside some of the most exceptional Métiers d’Art. Mount Fuji, a UNESCO World Heritage cultural site, is brought to life in a 50 mm white-gold case set with 60 baguette-cut colored sapphires totaling 3.74 carats. Inside beats the manual-wind caliber LFT AU14.03, made up of no fewer than 561 components and 68 jewels, with an impressive 8-day power reserve. The time, interestingly, is shown on the caseback rather than on the scene side, allowing the dial to remain an uninterrupted stage for Louis Vuitton’s Japanese fantasy.

Artistically, the maison draws on multiple enamel families, including Grand Feu, champlevé, paillonné, and miniature enamel. It took roughly 300 hours for the scene to come alive, while the overall piece required more than 1,000 hours of work. The star of the pocket watch is undoubtedly the serene tableau in pastel tones, rendered in a pale dawn palette that suits Mount Fuji beautifully. According to Hypebeast, a gold compass rose spins dynamically at 12 o’clock, beneath which a wooden fishing boat, packed to capacity, glides across the water. Inside, keeping the mythical Ebisu, associated with luck, fishermen, and merchants, company are miniature Louis Vuitton trunks that open to reveal Monogram flowers.

The river is one of the most technically interesting elements of the composition, created using silver leaf to achieve a shimmering water effect. To bring this poetic scene to life, the engraver reportedly made custom tools specifically for the miniature moving elements. Even the case side deserves attention, engraved with the traditional Japanese Seigaiha wave motif and subtly incorporating hidden Monogram flowers, a thoughtful detail that ties the tribute back to the house.

This one-of-a-kind creation by Louis Vuitton was handcrafted at La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton in Geneva. One has to applaud the work not only on the dial and around it, but also on the reverse. From the gold prongs for the jewel settings to the wheels connected to the tourbillon and the movement’s upper section, the mechanical artistry is every bit as compelling as the painted scene on the front. The caseback is not merely where the time is shown, but where the watch reveals another side of its beauty, one rooted in craftsmanship, finishing, and horological depth.
