Patek Philippe has added a new timepiece to its Annual Calendar line at the Watches & Wonders 2021 show. The new Patek Philippe Ref. 4947/1A-001 Annual Calendar happens to be the first timepiece in stainless steel to feature the annual calendar complication for the legendary Swiss watchmaker. Since its introduction 25 years ago, the Annual Calendar models have only been offered in precious metals by Patek Philippe. The latest iteration uses the classical Calatrava case design with a clean and conservative look.
The stainless steel case measures 38mm which puts it in the sweet spot for those looking for a dress watch with understated and classy aesthetics. Interestingly, Patek has chosen not to assign the watch to any gender and its compact dimensions make it practically ideal for everyone. What makes it even more attractive is its fully polished finish that beautifully augments its round shape.
The most eye-catching feature of the stainless steel Annual Calendar is its blue dial that has got a distinct woven fabric texture. The crosshatch pattern of the dial in a way gives the piece a slight deviation from its classical approach and adds depth to it. The dial otherwise follows a very traditional layout with applied Arabic numerals, a railroad minutes track, and azurage sub-dials.
Powering the watch is the manufacture 324 S QA LU automatic annual calendar movement that requires a date adjustment only once per year on March 1. The moon-phase display, on the other hand, deviates by only one day every 122 years. The movement which can be seen from the sapphire caseback operates at 28,800 bph and offers a power reserve of about 45 hours. Completing the look is a new five-link bracelet in stainless steel that matches the fully polished look of the watch. The Patek Philippe Ref. 4947/1A-001 Annual Calendar is priced at $47,904 and is available now through authorized dealers.
