Baselworld 2016 has brought us a number of fantastic timepieces that could well be the classics of the future. More recently we have discovered the uniqueness of the Bulgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater, which sets a world record of its own. Not many would have counted on Bulgari to be a brand that showcased limited edition timepieces with impressive movements, but here we are. The case of the watch measures just 6.85 mm in thickness and 40 mm in diameter. It is made of a sand-blasted titanium material that truly sets it apart from a majority of this year’s releases. The titanium is a preferred material to create the crisp chimes that a gilded build would surely dampen. In fact, the hour markers are cut-out so as to leverage the interior space of the case to let the chimes resound in all their glorious clarity. The crown of the watch is also made of titanium to keep the consistency going, albeit a black ceramic cabochon is set firmly on it.
On the inside, the watch portrays all the finesse as it does on the outside. It is equipped with a Bulgari caliber BVL 362 manually wound movement that measures just 3.12 mm in thickness. The minute repeater can be activated by a simple press of a pusher, which can be found on the left hand side of the case. The watch offers a power reserve of 42 hours.
The Bulgari Octo Finissimo broke the two-year record of the erstwhile thinnest minute repeater in the Vacheron Constantin Patrimony Contemporaine Calibre 1731 minute repeater that measured 8.09 mm in thickness. The timepiece will be limited to just 50 examples and will retail for 160,000 Swiss Francs ($164k).
