This just in! After becoming the first production car with laser headlights, BMW has added another cool feather to its cap called i8. The German marque has enhanced its auto making tact by lacing it with French fashion. Read: tailor-made Louis Vuitton luggage. The maison has created forward-looking travel bags for the plug-in hybrid. The progressive sports car now boasts matching carbon-black luggage. Even the black and electric blue used in the microfiber lining are an elegant nod to the trademark brand colors of the BMW i8.
“BMW and Louis Vuitton share both a profound appreciation of tradition and a commitment to constant further development,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design. The bags and cases, like the car’s innovative passenger cell, are made entirely from carbon fiber. Using the particularly lightweight yet extremely sturdy high-tech material Louis Vuitton has created a special textile. “The use of CFRP in the revolutionary BMW i8 sports car is indicative of an intelligent lightweight construction philosophy.”
Said construction philosophy has resulted in two travel bags, a business case and a garment bag. Sporting the unmistakable chequered Damier pattern and a laser-etched Louis Vuitton signature all the items bear leather name tags and remarkable sophistication. To ensure optimal use of space, they’re tailor-made to fit perfectly into the interior of the revolutionary BMW i8. Take for instance the Weekender GM i8. With both hand and shoulder carry straps it is custom-designed to go into the boot and costs $6,555.
The sturdy hard shell Business Case i8 ($6,280), which is also ideal for carrying laptops, matches the shape of the rear seats while the Weekender PM i8 ($5,870) is designed to rest on its surface. As for the Garment Bag i8 ($3,960), it is a perfect fit for the rear shelf of the BMW i8. Barring that last item, all the innovations bear the iconic LV padlock. Starting April 1st, the luggage series will be available upon request in a selection of Louis Vuitton stores worldwide (Munich, Milan, London, Paris, Moscow, Dubai, New York, Los Angeles).
