Mikimoto’s pearl necklaces unveiled at Baselworld at works of art!

Mikimoto debuted some truly fabulous pearl creations at Baselworld last month. You can imagine how covetable the designs were considering that three out of the four creations displayed, sold on the very day they were unveiled! Though all four pieces were pearl necklaces, these aren’t at all the demure pearl strands sported by TV housewives. Mikimoto’s pearl necklaces are elaborate confections crafted from rows and rows of Akoya pearls, combined with other precious pearls and colored stones, gracefully draped to form an ornament not just for the wearer’s neck but their entire body. Here’s the lowdown on the four piece collection.

Crafted in 18k white gold with akoya cultured pearls, a 13.5 x 10 mm conch pearl and a total of 9.13 cts. of diamonds, the Duet necklace is equal parts traditional and modern. It reminds us of the rows of diamonds and pearls sported by the royals of ancient India!

Inspired by the stars and planets as well as our own water covered earth, the Universe necklace is crafted from 18k white gold with white South Sea pearls and 14.12 cts. of diamonds. The design reflects a harmonious contrast between the diamond studded openwork design at the neck and the long string of spherical pearls.

The harness style Stream necklace is created with 18k white gold, akoya pearls and 22.23 cts. of diamonds. This traffic stopping design is a sure-fire attention stealer! We hope to see it on the red carpet sometime soon!

18k white gold, akoya and South Sea pearls, a 14.38 ct. tanzanite, 14.38 cts. of tsavorite garnets, 11.57 cts. of diamonds, 4.19 cts. of sapphires, and a 0.86 ct. Paraiba tourmaline comprise the final piece in the collection – the Feather. The strings of pearls are held together by the diamond and gem studded feather brooches. This design is a modern reworking of a well-loved pearl necklace design.

It’s unlikely that the Stream, which was the only piece not to have sold on the day of debut, is still available for purchase. But we can dream right?
